In 2003, as a cover page for the April newsletter of the homeschool group we were a part of, I wrote a short meditation on the worthiness of the Lamb of God to take the Throne. Back then my wife, the director, would hand write the newsletters. (Very homey indeed!) This year she once again resumed the director’s position and this month dug up the old newsletter and re-posted the devotion for her “Monthly Musings Blog”. This time it was on the homeschool website. (We’re high-tech now!)
I thought I would also share it with you here as a meditation for this holiday weekend as we celebrate the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. Below is a picture of the original newsletter from eleven years ago, and beyond that is the text. I hope you are blessed by these thoughts on our glorious Savior and King! He alone is worthy! ~ David
~ ~ ~
“Then I saw in the right hand of Him who sat on the throne a scroll with writing on both sides and sealed with seven seals. And I saw a mighty angel proclaiming in a loud voice, ‘Who is worthy to break the seals and open the scroll?’ But no one in heaven or on earth or under the earth could open the scroll or even look inside it. I wept and wept because no one was found who was worthy to open the scroll or look inside.
Then one of the elders said to me, ‘Do not weep! See the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the root of David, has triumphed. He is able to open the scroll and its seven seals.’ Then I saw a Lamb, looking as if it had been slain, standing in the center of the throne…”
Revelation 5:1-6
~ ~ ~
He is worthy to take the Lion’s throne,
who first was the Lamb slain for all.
~~~
He is worthy to bear many crowns,
whose head first bore a crown of thorns.
~~~
He is worthy to bear the scepter and the iron rod,
whose hands were first pierced with the iron nails.
~~~
He is worthy to bear the government on His shoulders,
whose shoulders first bore the weight of a rugged cross.
~~~
He is worthy to tread the wine press of God’s wrath,
whose feet were first stained with His own innocent blood.
~~~
He is worthy to strike the nations with the two-edged sword of His mouth,
whose lips first cried, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.”
~~~
He is worthy to be given the Name which is above every name,
who first made Himself of no reputation.
~~~
He is worthy to judge all rebellion,
who first became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
~~~
He is worthy to have every knee bow before Him,
who first bowed His knee to wash the feet of His disciples.
~~~
He is worthy to receive all riches,
who first was sold for thirty pieces of silver.
~~~
He is worthy to receive all honor, glory, and praise,
who was first despised and rejected of men.
~~~
He is worthy to receive my life,
who first gave His life for me.
~~~
HE IS WORTHY!
~ ~ ~
“Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels, numbering thousands upon thousands, and ten thousand times ten thousand. They encircled the throne and the living creatures and the elders. In a loud voice they sang: “Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!”
Revelation 5:11-12
