Finally, attached below is also an original song, “How Good and How Pleasant”, a quiet meditation on Psalm 133, which ties into the theme of “Life Together” and is still very “current” 😉 . I invite you to scroll down and give a listen if you wish! -Blessings, David]

When I come across free resources that are meaningful to me and have played a part in my spiritual life, I like to share them with you, my blogging family.
Christianaudio.com graciously offers one of their quality audiobooks as a free download each month. Along with the free download, they also have a $4.98 sale on a number of related audiobooks that month. This month’s offerings (March, 2020) are worth checking out!
Life Together, by Dietrich Bonhoeffer, is a short but rich read. In it he shares out of his own personal experience living in Christian community in an underground seminary in Eastern Prussia during the Nazi years. Most of us, I assume, are not living in some form of Christian cloister, but we are, none-the-less, called to vital, shared-life community as the body of Christ. As one brother who had a great impact on my life as a young believer would say, “We don’t have to all live under the same roof, but we should live in relationship with each other as if we did.” (Jay Ferris) The principles and truths shared by Bro. Bonhoeffer are applicable in intimate intentional community a well as in broader expressions of Christian shared-life community.
Even in this time (as of this post) of coronavirus pandemic, when we are being encouraged to practice social distancing, not gather in groups larger than 10, and in some cases being in mandated lockdown and quarantine, we are still part of a larger community and need to do what we can, even more than ever, to love our neighbor and find ways to live in and strengthen the community of God’s people. For many of us during this time, “life together” will also simply mean living more closely with our natural families beyond what we are normally used to. That, in and of itself can present some unique challenges and offer valuable opportunites for growth and strengthening of family bonds. Whether in more intimate or larger scale context, community is never more needed than in times of crisis and it is in such times that we discover afresh what we have been created for all along! Life Together by Bonhoeffer offers some profound and practical insights for our journey together.
You might also want to check out the other audiobooks that are on sale this month which include, The Cost of Discipleship by Dietrich Bonhoeffer. This is his classic, in-depth treatise on discipleship in both its individual and collective aspects, including a close examination and application of the Sermon on the Mount. (Believe it or not, this was the first book I ever read as a new believer. It’s amazing that I didn’t spiritually choke to death on the meat in this book as a new-born babe in Christ! It still holds a special place in my heart as one of the most influential books I’ve ever read!)
Also, three others on Christian discipleship in community are offered: Discipleship by A.W. Tozer, True Community by Jerry Bridges, and Life in Community by Dustin Willis.

Thanks, David! I never saw that quote by Jay…added it to my collection. 🙂
And this of yours..”community is never more needed than in times of crisis and it is in such times that we discover afresh what we have been created for all along!”
Yes, and I hope too, WHO we were created to be in community with all along, too. What an amazing opportunity, with church doors closed, and people staying home, to ask some very serious questions about what it’s all about. 😮 Maybe, just maybe, a few will get it in time to contribute to true Kingdom life going “viral.”
I’ll be checking out the links you shared. Free is my favorite price. 🙂
Bless You!

Thank you, Pam. I’m glad I could add to your Jay’isms collection. He certainly had some good ones, and many have stuck with me to this day!
I like your addition of “WHO…with” in regard to community. Yes, that is just as critical as the “what”! It certainly is an incredible opportunity we are living in for the church-world to be rocked from its “same old, same old” and to possibly discover the relational knitting together of His body 24/7. May God do a work that will change us forever!
I hope you are edified by the Bonhoeffer book!
Grace and peace!
